Recipe Corner: Turmeric, Apple Cider Vinegar & Ginger Tonic AKA TAG Fizzy

In the about us section of the JAKA JAMU website, I mentioned that I didn't really know my way around the kitchen.  That has changed and I often experiment with different combinations.  

Apple Cider Vinegar is something I have always been a fan of because of the health benefits including killing harmful bacteria in the body, lowering cholesterol and decreasing feelings of hunger leading to weight loss.  I'm sure which of the claims are scientifically backed but I do know it is something I enjoy and it makes me feel better when I drink it.  

Naturally I came up with a recipe that included turmeric, ginger and ACV.  It is a nice fizzy beverage that is quick and easy to make and tastes delicious. The day after having my sister test it out, I received a text that read, “I NEED ANOTHER TAG FIZZY STAT!”

The recipe doesn’t require much prep work and is a great way to get your turmeric fix. Be warned - the yellow hands and kitchen counter stains are real! Check out this article on removing turmeric stains from your countertops and this article for removing stains from your skin.

RECIPE: Turmeric, Apple Cider Vinegar & Ginger Tonic AKA TAG Fizzy   

Ingredients

Plain Sparkling Water - 16 oz

Fresh Turmeric - 4 oz

Fresh Ginger - 2 oz

Apple Cider Vinegar - 2 tablespoons 

Lemon or Lime squeezed or juiced (to flavor)

Stevia or honey (to flavor) 

Juicer 

Instructions -

  1. Cut the fresh turmeric and ginger into smaller pieces - no need to peel the turmeric and ginger, the skin gives the drink an earthy flavor. Process through a juicer. 

  2. Add the juice to 16 oz of sparkling water.

  3. Add lemon or lime juice and liquid stevia or honey to flavor. Note: if adding honey, add hot water to the honey before combining to liquify. 

  4. Stir, add ice and enjoy!

Makes 2 servings.
